Then Joshua spoke to the LORD in the day when the LORD delivered up the Amorites before the children of Israel, and he said in the sight of Israel:
“Sun, stand still over Gibeon;
And Moon, in the Valley of Aijalon.”
So the sun stood still,
And the moon stopped,
Till the people had revenge
upon their enemies.
Joshua asked God to keep the sun shining so they could defeat the enemy. The sun stood still and did not go down for a whole day. Joshua didn’t send a group of people to take a poll and see if that’s what they wanted. They now had more time to fight, but will they have the energy to continue? When God provides the environment to accomplish His will, He provides the means to ensure we can do it!
We sometimes doubt whether God will accomplish anything through our lives. We may see ourselves as weak or limited in our abilities. That’s the best condition to be in. That’s how we know it is God doing the work, and not ourselves.
As we see the world heading in the wrong direction, we can rest assured that God will not fail to fulfill every promise He has made in His Word. If we keep our eyes on Him instead of the circumstances that impact our lives on earth, we will see the sun stand still and be filled with the strength needed to accomplish His purposes for our lives.
